#WellnessWednesday
Hey Friends,
What’s up?! How are you?! Long time no see!
I have been reading a lot of articles lately, and one that popped out at me was “added sugar”. With the holiday season about to commence (what are you dressing up as this year? I’m going as a pumpkin, it’s printed on a bright orange hoodie!) I thought it was timely to pop in and hug you with some wellness love!
Also, how’s your water intake? With the weather changing, we may be reaching less and less for the colder beverages, or even sipping more of the hot liquids – which takes longer, and can mean our hydration takes a nose dive.
Do us both a favor and grap a sip of water quick. I’ll wait.
… ( This is me pausing for you to drink your water. #LoveYouMeanIt)
Okay, here it is!
This Week’s Topic: Hidden Sugar
Fast Fact 1: Even if the label says no added sugar, they can use fruit juice concentrate, which is unfortunately a fancy name for sugar syrup, fruit juice and fruit concentrate hold zero nutritional value.
Fast Fact 2: The bloodstream has about 4 grams of sugar in it at all times, that’s around a teaspoon of sugar, if youre a calorie counter it’s about 4 calories per gram.
Fast Fact 3: To slow the absorption of sugar in your bloodstream, consume sugary foods with fiber, protein, or healthy fat. This could look like low sugar chobani and a tablespoon of no sugar peanut butter mixed in (it tastes like a pb&j on a spoon!).
“But Shanna, why would you tell me this right before I go to my friend’s Halloween party this weekend?”
Sweet Darling, I’m telling you because I love you, and each day is a choice to honor our body the best we can, so we can show up at 100% and serve our purpose with ease. If you want to eat the white chocolate dipped oreos with googly eyes that look like mummies or drink the fireball spiked apple cider, please do! Maybe have a handful of sunflower seeds beforehand or just eat 2 cookies (my dear friend has an even number cookie rule. It’s her world, we just live in it! Lol) and switch to the graveyard themed veggie & hummus tray after – I may or may not have also been inspired by pinterest this week.
What holiday hacks or trade ups have you found successful?
Does anyone have a pic to share of those ridiculously adorable mummy or turkey or Santa fruit & veggie platters?!
Thanks for making space for me, friends. We’ll see you again soon!
